All Olive Oil Bottles are not Created Equal
Making the case for dripless oil and vinegar cruets. If you have ever picked up an olive oil bottle, slippery drips down the sides making it difficult to hold, easily tipped over and unattractive in appearance, you have probably been using one of the inexpensive bottles found in convenience and grocery stores. Often they are just the simplest of designs, a rubber or chrome spout dispensing – not all that effectively -the oil within.
You should especially not be using a matching pair of these type of olive oil bottles to dispense vinegar as well as oil. Spouts made from anything other than ceramic or stainless steel will become corroded from extended exposure to vinegar, … another unattractive table presentation to avoid.
It is very important that olive oil be stored in a different manner than it is dispensed. Large, clear bottles with spouts are ineffective for storage as they do not protect the contents from light and air. You will usually find that the manufacturer has used dark colored bottles to shield the precious oil from ultraviolet light, and provided cork stoppers or reusable caps to seal the bottle once it has been opened.
As effective a means of storage as the darkened, air-tight bottle provides, it is not the best means for dispensing the oil at the dinner table. For normal table use, it is recommended you use a decanting olive oil bottle, durable and practical. Add a smaller quantity of oil (6 to 8 ounces) to the bottle. You will have to refill it more often, but that will guarantee that the oil is always fresh and the delicate flavor is preserved.
The ideal olive oil bottle will also double as a drizzle cruet. These handmade serving bottles, with an elegant Euro design, provide a lovely way to present your finest olive oil and balsamic vinegar to your dinner guests or family. Most importantly, their flared necks prevent unsightly drips and their glass spouts are non-corrosive and more hygienic. In addition, these two piece olive oil bottles are made from the most durable of technical grade glass and drizzle perfectly any manner of oil, vinegar or flavored syrups. The flared necks also act as funnels when refilling, and help prevent the sticky, oily unpleasant touch of handling bottles that drip.
