A gift for Mother’s Day

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

The second Sunday in May is Mother’s Day. The true essence of thankfulness will bring us to the front door of mom’s house with gifts in hand, from hearts that have a sincere desire to express gratitude.

Mother’s Day gifts come in a variety of selections and styles. Most often these gifts are simple flower arrangements, chocolates and cards. Moms will never respond unkindly, but perhaps it is time to consider a gift that is a thoughtful indicator of the love and appreciation you have for your mother. A gift of considerate choosing that takes your gratitude to a level that will surprise and delight the very one who gave you life.

Our mothers spend a great deal of time in the kitchen and a unique kitchen gift or a gourmet gift of elegance and style will be remembered long after flowers fade, wither, and are finally discarded.

Imagine some time in the future; mom sits down for a cup of tea and traces her finger across the top of a Euro Glass Teapot, or a hand-blown set of oil and vinegar cruets, she received as a gift from you. She remembers special long ago moments she was certain she had forgotten. A thoughtful, daily used gift can provide a personal ongoing connection between you and your mother. Best of all - her thoughts will be toward you, not the gift.

This in no way diminishes the effectiveness of the gift; it actually enhances the overall gift giving experience. You see, a well thought out Mother’s Day gift is as much for you as it is for her; useful and appreciated – with memories attached.

When the second Sunday in May rolls around, consider a kitchen gift or a gourmet gift that conveys to your mom that you believe Mother’s Day is more than a special occasion – the day is a moment of insistence that she be held in the highest esteem. It may even be a moment when strained relationships can be mended and old offenses forgotten.

Long after the second Monday in May, our mom will settle back in her daily routine. Why not give her another reason to think of you each day. And you know, she will indeed.

bread dipping dish

A new Bread Dipping Dish. As people become more health conscious, many are turning to the Mediterranean Diet in order to eat a healthy diet without feeling like they’re depriving themselves. A great appetizer originating from Italy, and fitting perfectly with the Mediterranean Diet is bread dipping. select item

Creating a bread dipping appetizer is simple. All that is required is a bread dipping dish, bread and some olive oil and vinegar. Slice or cube your chosen bread (sourdough and foccacia are great for this), and place some extra virgin olive oil or balsamic vinegar in the bread dipping dish. Now all that’s required is to choose a piece a piece of bread and dip it into your desired condiment. Nothing could be more simple.

Our new bread dipping dish provides the perfect dish to use for bread dipping. A simple swirl on the bottom of the dipping dish becomes an artistic focal point when extra virgin olive oil is added. The swirl will appear to get darker as the dipping dish gets deeper.Made from restaurant grade white porcelain, our dipping dish is perfect for any occasion. Elegant and functional, the dipping dish is 4.5 inches wide, and is dishwasher safe, making cleaning a breeze. Should you create your own flavored oils to use in the dipping dish, it is also microwave safe, so oil can be warmed in the microwave to disperse the flavor.

To obtain the best quality flavor, extra virgin olive oil should be used in the dipping dish. While you may already have olive oil in your kitchen cupboard, extra virgin olive oil contains the most flavor, and lends itself perfectly to bread dipping, so it’s worth buying some extra virgin olive oil to use for this purpose. To make your own flavored oils for the dipping dish, simply add some fresh herbs and spices to the oil. Basil, lemon juice, sun dried tomato’s and black pepper all work well. Simply allow the flavors to blend for at least 15 minutes before serving. If you do need to use the oil immediately, place the dipping dish in the microwave and heat for 10 seconds. This will help the flavors to disperse so that you can serve straight away.

If you haven’t already tried it, consider making bread dipping appetizer for your next function. You’re sure to start a trend, and the bread dipping dish makes a wonderful table centerpiece, sure to gain many comments. You can be assured that this is one appetizer that will be devoured by all. Bread dipping is a healthy alternative to many other snacks, and doesn’t have to be saved for special occasions. If the kids are hungry after school, bring out the bread dipping dish along with their favorite bread, and they’ll be satisfied in no time. If unexpected guests drop in, it’s no trouble to quickly throw together a quick platter. Slice up some bread, fill the dipping dish with extra virgin olive oil, and it’s ready to serve.

Next time you need to buy a gift, remember that the beautiful American Porcelain Bread Dipping Dish makes a wonderful present. Classy and useful, it’s suitable to give as an anniversary, birthday, engagement or wedding gift. Team it with a quality extra virgin olive oil and vinegar, or a flavored oil you’ve created yourself, and you’ve got a sure winner. bread dipping dish, oil dipping

Mother’s Day Gourmet Gifts

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Mothers Day gourmet giftMother’s Day gourmet gift ideas for the gourmet kitchen. Mother’s Day is the second Sunday in May; this year, May 13, so if you are shopping for a Mother’s Day gift, you may want to make a note on the calendar a week or so ahead of time. Give yourself a little extra time to shop for a unique Mother’s Day gift that will be more than just an arrangement of flowers and a card. Mother’s Day gourmet gifts are a great selection for your mother, grandmother, or mother-in-law. A gourmet Mother’s Day gift can be a unique kitchen item, a helpful culinary tool, or delicious imported gourmet condiments that she can use over and over while cooking.

One unique Mother’s Day gift for the kitchen is an oil and vinegar cruet set. Non-drip drizzler sets for olive oil and balsamic vinegar are a welcome addition to any kitchen or dining table. Olive oil is known for the bothersome drip down the side of the bottle and on fine table linens. The matching pair of drizzle cruets dispense both oil and vinegar easily and without a mess. The handblown glass design offers European style with practical filling and easy drizzling of fine oils and flavored vinegars. A cruet set can be purchased along with bottles of award winning olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar.

Oil and vinegar gift sets can be sent by Priority Mail in time for Mother’s Day. Cold pressed Spanish olive oil is a delightful condiment as well as a healthy alternative to nominal cooking oils, margarine, and nonstick cooking sprays. Aged Italian balsamic vinegar is a delicious taste and flavor to drizzle over meats, poultry, and fish. Gourmet balsamic vinegar is the perfect gourmet gift for Mother’s Day. It is becoming more popular to give a bottle of balsamic vinegar, rather than a bottle of red or white wine; a bottle of balsamic vinegar will last a lot longer too.

Gourmet oil and vinegar is an excellent Mother’s Day gift selection, as they are imported accoutrements that mom might not necessarily purchase on her own. Preparing dishes with balsamic vinegar will add new flavor to old recipes. With a simple wire whisk or a kitchen blender, an oil and vinegar vinaigrette can be made numerous ways, providing spice and panache to salad dressings and marinades.

If your mother loves to cook Italian cuisine, she will enjoy imported olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar to make pastas, dressings, and the homemade bread dipping sauces.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with kindness and consideration. A gourmet gift shows your appreciation and gratitude in a tasteful way. Regardless of which gift you decide to get your mother or grandmother on Mother’s Day, be sure to take time out for her on Sunday. You may consider calling her or even visiting her in person. One of the best Mother’s Day gifts of all, is hearing from family that tells her how much she is loved and thought of.

Olive wood herb mill and grinder

Sunday, April 01st, 2007

olive wood herb millOlive wood herb mill and spice grinder. Each herb mill is hand made in France from select olive wood. The Olive wood and acrylic grinder-mill is used throughout France in the kitchen. Herb mill is sturdy enough for daily use and comes already filled with four oz. of Herbes de Provence spices. Olive wood is the most prized natural wood which gourmet utensils and cooking tools can be made from.

French made Provençal olive wood herb mill turns dried herbs into fresh and flavorful cooking spices. It grinds dried herbs to a fresh fragrant powder. By grinding to a soft powder the herb and spice’s fragrance and flavor is increased greatly. Fresh seasonings such as ground herbs and spices are preferred by chefs because of the inherent flavor they bring to every dish where they are used.

Each hand made olive wood herb mill measures about 5 inches tall and has a diameter of about 2 inches. The olive wood herb mill and the select grade dried herbs are imported from France.

Often recipes will call for Herbs de Provence to be combined with fresh sliced tomatoes, the dried herb flavors are used to create delicious, classic Provençal recipes as bouillabaisse, ratatouille, French salade niçoise, and the garlic flavored mayonnaise called “aioli.”

As a gourmet gift, the olive wood herb and spice grinder is a welcome addition to gourmet kitchens. You can easily dispense dried herbs whole by pushing on the top button, or fresh ground by a twist the top to grind.

Herbes de Provence spices, ground through a herb mill, are known for extraordinary flavor and fragrance. French gourmet recipes call for it as a common ingredient. Quality herb ingredients such as basil, marjoram, rosemary, thyme, and savory are selected for this exceptional herb and spice mixture. Add flavor to marinade meats, poultry, fish, or vegetables. Add to stews and soups.

Masserie Balsamic Vinegar of Modena

Masserie Balsamic Vinegar

Masserie di Sant’Eramo Balsamic Vinegar of Modena
Aceto Balsamico di Modena Acidity 6%
Product of Italy with Produzione Certificata

masserie balsamic vinegarMasserie balsamic vinegar of Modena is made following centuries old methodology. Vine ripe red grapes are cooked to a concentrated red grape must. Aged wine vinegar accompanies the grape must while being aged in prized wooden casks in temperature sensitive environments.

Masserie balsamic vinegar is ideal for most culinary purposes. This artisan style balsamic condiment is made in the traditional method and aged as a high quality vinegar. Masserie di Sant’Eramo balsamic vinegar is one of the cook’s best choices when a gourmet recipe calls for balsamico as an ingredient.

The slow ripening of the grapes add to the body of the grape must reduction. The long aging process produces a condiment unlike ordinary wine vinegars. Masserie balsamic vinegar differs from the other wine vinegars because of the intense aroma, rich flavor, and intriguing contrast between sourness and naturally sweet undertones. A splash or extra drizzle of this quality balsamic vinegar is usually enough to give any salad or side dish an extraordinary taste and depth.

Aceto balsamico is used sparingly as a seasoning accoutrement. When added to a meat marinade it helps tenderize and flavor either poultry or red meat cuts. Balsamic vinegar can add a lift to soups, and a sparkle to both pasta and garden green salads. Enjoy a cruet filled with Masserie balsamic vinegar on the table to drizzle on top of a cooked dish or use with extra virgin olive oil as a bread dipping sauce.

Serve with crusty bread and fresh sliced tomatoes as an appetizer. Fresh vegetables can be steamed crisp and served with a drizzle of Masserie balsamic vinegar and coarse grained sea salt for seasoning.

Thinking of giving a bottle of wine for a housewarming or hostess gift? As a gourmet gift, Masserie di Sant’Eramo balsamic vinegar makes a better impression than the conventional bottle of Chardonnay, and will last much longer too.

Villa Bellentani Balsamic Vinegar

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

oil dipping dishVilla Bellentani, Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Villa Bellentani of Modena Italy, produces balsamic vinegars that are classed in a gourmet category of their own. These balsamic vinegars are unlike other aged vinegars made simply from wine. Villa Bellentani balsamic vinegar make exquisite gourmet gifts.select item

Villa Bellentani balsamic vinegar represents the essence of commerce which made Modena a capital city. The traditional balsamic producers, or Acetifici Italiani, have understood after 400 years, a need to preserve Italy’s family traditions and heritage of genuine balsamico production. They wish to preserve Modena balsamic vinegar, which has already been adulterated and corrupted by vinegar producers who do not follow authentic tradition. For centuries, the world of authentic Italian aged balsamic vinegar is one of respect for the history and traditions of the trade.

Modern food production and technology processes are in compliance with the most recent European and international regulations (HACCP-ISO-CE). These measures assure the production of a kind of balsamico vinegar which comes from the Modena locale, in cooperation with generations of handed down family aged traditions.

A philosophy of life helped inspire the building of the beautiful villa in Carpi (now an Italian national historic monument) of the Eighteenth century Bellentani family. The Villa in Carpi structure, with its architectural design and frescos have made Villa Bellentani integral with balsamic heritage. The villa is an inspiration for perfection in the production of balsamico vinegars.Villa Bellentani balsamico is a true taste of Italy. They produce authentic balsamic vinegar from centuries of experience, which shows in the pride they have for the balsamic vinegar made at their facility.

Villa Bellentani balsamic vinegar has a very dark, rich color. This is the result of the long, natural aging process which is carefully regulated by the balsamico vinegar master. The balsamico ages for years in small wooden casks, and will become darker over time. The consistency of the balsamic vinegar becomes thicker and eventually the viscosity is like that of syrup.

Villa Bellentani flavor and balsamic production cannot be imitated by amateur producers whose only concern is keeping the price low. Villa Bellentani balsamic vinegar is a superior balsamic quality that exceeds the final customers highest expectations. Villa Bellentani balsamic vinegar mellows, enriches and blends the taste of numerous foods, while stimulating the palate with a complex flavors and aroma. Gourmet chefs will use it in small amounts, as quality balsamic vinegar will enhance but not overwhelm the flavors in delicate gourmet dishes.

A note about storing gourmet Oils.

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

All oils are best kept (or stored) away from heat and light. This is especially so for unrefined oils such as extra virgin olive oil. A cool dark pantry or cupboard is the best location for olive oil when it is not on the prep counter being used as an ingredient.Glass, porcelain, and stainless steel make the best decanters or containers. Glass drizzle cruets are an ideal decanter. Never store olive oil in a plastic or reactive metal container. There are certain gourmet oils that are unstable and should be refrigerated, i.e. walnut and hazelnut oils. Fine gourmet olive oil is not an oil to store in the frig.

Glass oil and vinegar cruets are a perfect gourmet gift selection for any occasion. olive oil storage, olive oil decanter, drizzle cruets
